0,0,0: a global snapshot of non-objective art in the digital age

commemorating the 110th anniversary of kazimir malevich’s groundbreaking 0,10 exhibition (petrograd, 1915), the 0,0,0 portfolio is a seminal contemporary project that explores the enduring legacy of geometric and non-representational art worldwide.

the title “0,0,0” references the pure state of the color black in programming code, symbolizing the core principle of maximum reduction and universal applicability—a direct conceptual bridge to malevich's revolutionary "zero form."

this limited-edition portfolio gathers 30 original works by international artists, showcasing the vibrant, transcultural evolution of constructivist principles across different generations and continents. it is a visual dialogue between the historical avant-garde and the logic of our networked, digital world.

born in 1943 in basel and a fixture of the zurich art scene since the late 1960s, hersberger has spent decades redefining the boundaries of geometric abstraction. while malevich’s "zero point" in 1915 marked the end of traditional representation, hersberger treats the zero point as a spatial coordinate—a site where light and transparency dissolve the physical weight of matter. her work exists as a rigorous, silent dialogue between the clarity of mathematical logic and the atmospheric mystery of light.

hersberger’s career is defined by her mastery of "space-light-objects." in the 1970s, she made the radical move away from the traditional canvas, utilizing acrylic glass and neon to create structures that transform with the viewer’s perspective. her international significance is cemented by numerous public installations and her presence in major collections, including the kunsthaus zürich and the museum für konstruktive und konkrete kunst. her unique ability to capture the invisible—light and air—within precise geometric frames has made her a vital bridge between classical modernism and contemporary spatial art.

hersberger’s contribution to the 0,0,0 portfolio explores the "re-negotiation of abstraction" through the lens of transparency. if the 1915 avant-garde sought the absolute in the dense darkness of the "black square," hersberger finds it in the clarity of the void. her work in the portfolio reflects the three zeros as a tripartite harmony of space, light, and proportion. by layering transparent planes, she creates "depth without weight," echoing the infinite layers of the digital black while remaining rooted in the physical, sensory experience of light.

in our 110-year reflection on the "0,10" legacy, hersberger represents the transition from the solid "object" to the "phenomenon." she echoes the constructive spirit of the early 20th century but updates it for the 21st, proving that the search for the "zero point" is not a journey into nothingness, but a journey into the pure, luminous essence of the space we inhabit.
