0,0,0: a global snapshot of non-objective art in the digital age
commemorating the 110th anniversary of kazimir malevich's groundbreaking 0,10 exhibition (petrograd, 1915), the 0,0,0 portfolio is a seminal contemporary project that explores the enduring legacy of geometric and non-representational art worldwide.
the title "0,0,0" references the pure state of the color black in programming code, symbolizing the core principle of maximum reduction and universal applicability—a direct conceptual bridge to malevich's revolutionary "zero form."
this limited-edition portfolio gathers 30 original works by international artists, showcasing the vibrant, transcultural evolution of constructivist principles across different generations and continents. it is a visual dialogue between the historical avant-garde and the logic of our networked, digital world.
alfredo jaar (b. 1956, santiago de chile) is a chilean conceptual artist, architect, photographer, and filmmaker who lives and works in lisbon. for more than four decades his work has interrogated the gap between reality and its representation, addressing geopolitics, ethics, migration, and the power of images—most famously in the six-year rwanda project and the public intervention a logo for america.
within the 0,0,0 portfolio, jaar brings the conscience of the documentary image to the language of geometric abstraction: the "zero form" becomes not an empty sign but a charged space of silence, reduction, and ethical attention—where what is left out matters as much as what remains.
his significance is underscored by participations in the venice biennale (representing chile in 2013), the sao paulo biennale, and the whitney biennial (2022), as well as documenta in kassel. major individual exhibitions have been held at the new museum of contemporary art (new york, 1992), whitechapel gallery (london, 1992), and moderna museet (stockholm, 1994).
jaar's contribution to art history has been honored with numerous awards, including the guggenheim fellowship (1985), the macarthur fellowship (2000), the hiroshima art prize (2018), the hasselblad award (2020), and the prix pictet (2025). his works are held in the permanent collections of the world's most important museums, including the museum of modern art (moma) and the guggenheim museum in new york, tate in london, centre pompidou in paris, and the nationalgalerie in berlin.
"there's this huge gap between reality and its possible representations. and that gap is impossible to close. so as artists, we must try different strategies for representation." alfredo jaar
